It is really up to you and how you want the vibe or feel to be for cocktail hour and dinner. You are free to choose from a general genre like jazz, soft contemporary or come up with your own idea/playlist for cocktail hour and dinner. This music is typically played at a lower volume so people can talk and mingle. In general cocktail hour and dinner will run about 2 hours to 2 and a half hours. That means we will play approximately 50 songs for this entire portion of the reception
If you want to build your own playlist you are definitely able to. The easiest way to do this is to build a playlist in Spotify or Apple Music and then share the link with your DJ.
While you have the option to leave this as DJ Choice we highly recommend picking a song that fits you and your bridal party best!
There is two traditional options for grand entrance that people usually choose. Typically we will introduce Bridesmaids and Groomsmen and the wedding couple. The other most popular option is just the wedding couple. Of course there's no wrong way to form your grand entrance but these are the most common options.
Ideally you might choose a song for the bridal party and a song for the two of you. Alternatively you can choose just one song for everyone! It usually takes around 2 minutes to get everyone through even if just one song. Grand entrance songs are usually fun and upbeat and help set the mood for the rest of the event. Some people like super high energy and some like a more relaxed feel, either way we have provided some examples of popular grand entrance options with a Spotify link below.
Lastly typically you start with brides maids and grooms men, then Maid(Matron) of Honor and Best Man, then finally the wedding couple. We also will only announce by first name, so you may include last name but just first names are ok as well. Make sure you place everyones names in the order you want them announced it is very helpful to the DJ!
Often we are asked what do most couples do for a first dance? It's not usually a problem for couples to pick a first dance song, however how it goes is a different story. Most couples surprisingly don't necessarily like all that attention and cameras and phones focused on them for too long. So they will choose to only do 1 minute and half to 2 minutes around where the first chorus of a song ends.
It's also important to tell your DJ if the first dance is choreographed or un-choreographed. In either case whether you are dancing with the stars to a choreographed dance or freestyling your first dance you also have the option to give specific time stamps.
For example, start the song at 30 seconds and play until the 2:18 mark. Referencing the exact version you are using is also critical in this case. Many songs have different versions, extended, radio, edited unedited, wedding version, acoustic version and so on. If you want specific timing or you have a choreographed dance make sure to cite the exact version you would like so there's no question on timing!
If your wondering about what other couples choose as first dance here are some of the most popular!
